So it’s been awhile since I blogged and for that, I once again apologize.  Work has been busy (but great!) and the last couple of weeks have been pretty full.  Recently I..

-Passed the MPLS Exam
So I passed, but to be fair I still have a lot to learn.  I think I’m going to buy the MPLS fundamentals Cisco press book as a ‘final read’/’on going reference’.  There were a few questions on the exam that I had to guess at which always makes me feel uncomfortable.  I am however glad I passed so I can move onto the final exam for the CCIP, QOS.  I think it’s going to be a struggle for me.  Not because I don’t want to learn about it, but because it seems rather dry for some reason.  There have been lots of instances where I’ve been asked QOS questions and not known the answer so I’m hoping to get a lot out of it.

-Took the VMware 5 install, configure, something, something class
So I got really lucky and got the opportunity to take this class.  I wouldn’t say I was disappointed with the class, I was however just a little let down.  There were a couple of reasons for that.  One, the instructor wasn’t my favorite.  Yes, I know I’m picky, but sometimes you just take a class and the instructor just isn’t a good fit for you.  To be fair, there haven’t been many that I was totally in love with.  I usually prefer the teachers who are still working in industry and just teach on the side.  They often seem to have more info they can share on best practices and that type of thing.  Personal preference I guess.  Secondly, the class covered a lot of what I knew already just from reading about it and doing a few ESXi install here and there.  The class was helpful in clarifying some of those one of lingering questions I had but really didn’t get into any of the interesting stuff.  My gripe about this is that VMware doesn’t call this a ‘basic’ class and offer an ‘advanced’ class.  Your only other option is a two day online class called ‘What’s new’ which I guess covers some of the more advanced functionality.  Oh well, every vendor is different so I’m not going to complain.  Im glad I took the class and I did learn some things so it was a ‘win win’ situation.

So that’s pretty much the last two weeks.  Now looking forward I have a few goals.  Before the end of the year I’d like to…

-Pass the QOS test
-Build a VMware home lab to study
-Pass the VCP
-Blog more

Lofty goals but I think I can cut it.  I really need to be better about blogging again.  Hoping that comes hand in hand with studying QOS and the VMware stuff.  We’ll see…
